We invite you to participate in this celebration by submitting your nominations and joining us at the awards ceremony. Whether you're a startup founder, an investor, a community leader, or just someone passionate about innovation and entrepreneurship, we welcome you to join us in recognizing the remarkable achievements of Edmonton's startup community.

To be eligible for the YEG Startup Awards, nominees must meet the following criteria:

Must be located or headquartered in Edmonton.
Must fit into one of the 12 award categories View award categories
Startups and individuals must have significantly impacted the Edmonton startup community in the past year. Measuring this impact is possible through various means, such as increasing revenue, creating jobs, fostering innovation, and engaging with the community.
Nominees must be in good standing and must not have a history of legal or ethical violations.

Judges / Adjudicator Eligibility

YEG Startup Awards adjudication committee carefully selects our judges for their expertise and experience in the startup ecosystem. They are required to meet the following criteria:

Must have a deep understanding of the startup community and the challenges that entrepreneurs face.
Must have a track record of success in their respective fields, including finance, marketing, technology, or entrepreneurship
To ensure impartiality, judges must not have a direct financial or personal interest in any of the nominees in the category they are adjudicating.
Must commit to fairness and transparency and be able to evaluate nominees objectively based on the criteria for each award category.

Our judges play a critical role in maintaining the integrity and credibility of the YEG Startup Awards. Bringing together a diverse group of experts passionate about innovation and entrepreneurship enables us to recognize the most deserving nominees for their outstanding achievements in Edmonton.

Diversity is essential to the success of the YEG Startup Awards. We strive to select judges from a wide range of backgrounds, including different genders and orientations, ages, ethnicities, industries and organizations’ sizes, to ensure that all nominees are evaluated fairly and impartially by a well-rounded panel of experts.

Adjudication Process

At the YEG Startup Community Awards, we use a rigorous and objective evaluation process to determine the top finalists for each award category, including the respective winners. Here's how it works:

The selection of judges: We carefully select a group of adjudicators composed of committee members and community volunteers who will evaluate the nominations for the awards. Each adjudicator's assessments are equally considered and weighted in the determination of the top 3 finalists for each award category.
Nominations and notification: Members of the community are invited to nominate organizations and individuals for the awards in any of the twelve categories during the nomination period. After the nomination window has closed, the nominees will be informed.
Evaluation period: The adjudicators then evaluate the nominations based on their respective eligibility criteria, ranking the nominees as first, second, and third choices. At least three different adjudicators evaluate each award nomination.
Final results: The raw outputs from the single round of assessment are used to quantitatively rank every nomination to determine their overall placement. The top 3 nominees will be shared publicly before the award show.
People's Choice Award: The People’s Choice Awards are evaluated by a separate process that is open to the public. During the voting period, the public is invited to vote for their favourite nominee in this category, and the winner is determined by the highest number of votes.
